coolant questions

my reservoir is empty and I heard my electric fan turn on for the first time I have 28k miles, its been chipped since 20k been running water/methanol for about 1k, do I have a head gasket problem? Ive never noticed my eng temp needle go past 1/2 way not even in 110 degree weather with the pedal to the metal. Basically I dont even bother to look at the eng temp needle anymore, I might have to start looking at it. Is there a fix for this now? or are we all still waiting on it?

thanks

Is there coolant splatter anywhere under the hood i.e. signs that the coolant got pressurized and blew out of the catch tank? Also, oil analysis will tell if you have coolant in the oil.

Sorry to hear you have a problem. BTW, While I was at the dealer, they just finish a head job on a '04 KingRanch CC 5th wheel, that was chipped and it stretched the head bolts. I would imagined if this was a problem we would hear of it more. Good luck, I hope it all works out.

It is...and we have.

But many have programmers plus you add a little water/methanol ? Well, sometimes bad things happen.

Industrial Dude,

The lack of coolant can be several things and is not good as it causes an overheat situation.

1) Head gasket problems with exhaust gas getting into system and "puking" coolant out the degas bottle - will see white residue all over hood and on motor around degas bottle.

2) Your programmer and/or water/meth set-up creates more heat than it was designed for and cuases item #1 above.

3) You may have a coolant leak somewhere in or on the motor (any drips)?

I would refill with distilled water and Motorcraft premium gold coolant ASAP and see what happens, when and under what driving situations.

I would delete all signs of your mods before taking in, since experience has shown that your kind of mods creates overheating, fueling issues leading to "puking" of coolant.

Remember... "Be able to pay if you want to play" (with mods)

I do wish you good luck.

Yes there is coolant splatter around the bottle, and I did once notice it leaking from one of the coolant hoses (the one closest to the power steering pump) but that was just one time Ive checked for leaks coming from that same direction many times and never saw anything again, maybe I have no more coolant? that water methanol has been doing some weird stuff I might need to turn it down a notch. How would I know if I have stretched bolts? Lets say I do have stretched bolts and bad gaskets, whats the best stuff out there to fix this problem, Ive heard talk about after market head studs and gaskets I think. The truck still runs perfectly fine I just drove it hard up a grade in 90 degree weather and no over heating no loss of power. Give me some advice guys thanks.

You won't get major overheating unless you are pulling a load...the factory fan will keep the engine within normal operating temperatures even with half of the coolant capacity empty.

I know your mods pretty well And I can say with some degree of certainty that you have either blown the head gaskets or melted the EGR cooler. I'll catch you on AIM.
