Hi guys!
I'm thinking of purchasing a 2005 V10 Lariat CC and need honest gas mileage estimates. I have no experience with the V10 at all. I live in San Diego,Ca. so replys from Calif. V10 owners are especially appreciated. It's a 4x2 with a 4:10 rear
short bed. It's a 2005 so I get the rebate which is nice but don't want to walk in to a mileage nightmare. Any help/opinions are appreciated and thanks
My 2001 F250 CC 4x4 3.73 got 14-16 best mpg unloaded highway driving. It actually got (I swear) 17.2 coming back from Colorado one trip. All downhill and unloaded.
My 2002 F350 CC 4x4 4.30 gets 10-11 city and up to 14 mpg highway unloaded. Towing I get 10-12 mpg but I usually tow pretty light stuff...4500-6000 lbs on a car hauler.
no they only need 87. i've run mine on the dyno several times before the tuner. 92 was a total waste. 89 ok, best pulls where on 87. ford states in the manaul you only need 87 gas. this new v10 is awsome so enjoy.
Mine has 2500 miles on it & I get about 10 in town, 13 on the hwy, 11-12 pulling a 5X10 trailer with a 850 lb ATV. This is driving no faster than 70 on the hwy & easy take offs & stops in town. If I play around & get on it it will drop by 2 mpg. I will say this though I REALLY LOVE the V-10.

In comparison to what else you could buy, the V10 is the best choice. I'm presuming you're buying a HD truck to use ? Honda Civic mileage you won't get, but compared to the 8.1 GM, or the 5.7 hemi the V10 gets better mileage and is more powerful. The 5.7 is a small block anyway, as is the V10 but it has 20% more cylinders. So if you're going to buy a HD truck, go for the V10. I can get 16, I do get 12-13 avg, I have gotten 8 towing, and I have gotten over 10 towing. The rest is up to you and your right foot. One word of warning; the power is addicting, when new your gas mileage will SUCK, so will your tire tread life. Once you get used to driving around with a big, stupid grin on your face all the time you mileage will get better. Unless some punk in a Dodge Ram pulls next to you,,,,,,,,

I have the same truck you are looking at. 2005 v10, 4:10, cc, lariat. I get between 9-10 mpg in city and around 13 mpg highway. Have about 3000 miles on it. But when I pull our 7000 pound toy hauler I get around 7mpg highway. That's also using the tow command system.
I get 10-11 around town and 13-14 on the highway with my 2005 F-250 Harley V-10. Very impressed so far with 4500 miles. I had a 2005 F-250 XLT CC 5.4 for less than a year and did not like it, so when the A Plan hit, I went a grabbed what I originally wanted. Gas mileage dropped by 1 or 2, but the power increase was well worth it.

Charlie, thanks for proving out what Ford says is true. Using the Dyno is not cheap and we all appreciate this kind of information.
The V10 delivers great power and good fuel useage for a 415 CI engine.
In the past you had to buy a diesel to get the maximum tow ratings.
With the 3 valve V10, you can get the same tow ratings as the PSD if you have the 4.30s.
Even with the 4.10s you get a higher tow rating than the 04 PSDs.
21000 GCVWR versus 20000 for the 04 PSD.
I owned an 04 PSD and never would I give up this V10 to go back to a 6.0 PSD and for years I made that same tired statement you will read up in the 6.0 Forum. You know the one " I will never own a pickup with a gas engine again"
just as a update. with the turner properly set for 410's and 17 inch tires, running 87, i am now getting a every day av. of 13.46 mpg's and have hit 15.83 on the highway. the v10 seems imm to have some hidden things in it's programing.
as to 4 valve heads it does not needd them.
even vw who has long used 5 valves. they too are going back down in valves and now are getting 100hp per liter out a 2.0 engine. what im tring to say is wait. car and truck builders seem to still have many tricks up their sleves.
