It's possible, but not probable. IIRC the chebby 305 is the choice around here as it fits better. There all kinds of kits available to put the 289/302/351w in one tho.

Put a Ford in your Ford. There are several websites that outline 'how to'. Do a google search for 'v8 ranger'; you should come up with many websites that will be very helpful. If you do go to a chevy motor, why not go to a 350, since the 305 and 350 are the same size externally? I would go EFI 302 if it were me.

I have a 302 in my 87 ranger and getting ready to slap one into my 87 BII. you can do a search and find the info out there and some older ford truck and mustang parts will work so you dont have to buy theadaptrs that cost $$$$$

please share the knowledge!
I am just in the beginning stages of the Ranger V8 swap, I already have a 91 mustang GT 5.0 engine, and looking for the rest of the parts to make it work. I have seen the info on the swap kits by Kaufman, but they are pretty proud of thier products, so any chance of saving $$ and Im all over it.

My rangers 302 was already in it when I bought it and it has the advance adaptor for the tranny on it then everything else is junk yard parts.
History of mine, 80 mustang 302, carbed, T-18 4 speed, 1350 t-case. I have done some mods to it since i got check out my web page

Also if you are doing the EFI get the wiring and computer for your motor, the stock fuel pumps will work but it is recomended that you change the pumps to match your motor. dual sump oil pan will be needed, headers best to get a set from a explorer 5.0, Mine are a make it your self kit from summit. also a body lift makes this fit easier.

My BII will be a 302 from a older ford truck, I am still working on gather parts for it.

Yu've got 90% of what you need already. Stang mounts work, the old Shelby style tri-Y headers fit the Ranger better than the Stangs they were designed for, Most stuff for the Stangs, also works in Rangers. My 89 ext cab has had a V8 now for 4 years or so. Started with an 88 Crown Vic 5.0 and a C-4 auto. Currently its the worlds only 331 stroker, sixpack( three 2 bbl carbs ) equipped Ranger out here. Transmission is now a Toploader 4 speed. Rear is a narrowed Explorer 8.8. This 3800 lb brick runs mid 13's in the 1/4.

A buddy of mine did that swap, but used V-8 Explorer parts.

Thanks for the help guys....one more question, I have found a 90 Lincoln Mark VII for cheap $$ with a 5.0 and auto trans, the thing also supposedly has a 8.8 disk brake rear. questions are, will the computer and harness out of the Mark VII work with my 91 Mustang GT engine?

From what I understand the Mustang GT is mass air and also the HO version, trying to find info on the Mark VII to determine if it will work?

Also the Mark VII has an auto trans, does anybody know if this is the one they call the AOD ? the seller said something about it having a 4 speed auto.

Im thinking that if the parts will work off the Mark VII, then I will be pretty much set.

This is going in a 93 regular cab 2wd Ranger, more of a street/drag setup. Kind of a sleeper. By the way does anyone know if the stock hood will clear the V8 setup?

The Lincoln Mark VII's have the same 5.0 HO motor the Stangs had. Only thing different was they had a larger 130 amp alternator with a larger alternator bracket to fit it. The trans is an AOD. To determine whether it's Mass-air, just look for the M/A meter between the filter box and throttle body. And, also, yea that 8.8 in it is a disc brake 8.8, but it ain't gonna bolt into a Ranger. And finally, don't worry about your hood, the Ranger has miles of clearance there. My 89 hood clears the oval 3x2 aircleaner with a 3" K&N filter on my 331. I've even seen a couple swaps that used the 2 bbl T/B pickup truck upper and lower intake that also cleared the hood.

Cool! thanks man!

Yeah I also figured the rear wont be a bolt in and go type of deal, eventually I would like to narrow it, and go 4 link.

I figure for the $500 the guy wants for the Mark VII I cant go wrong. It runs and drives!

Good price. I too, bought an 88 Mark VII for that price two years ago. It was wrecked in the right rocker panel, missing the door, but it also ran and drove nicely, We took some burnout pics just before I sold it, right door misssing and all. Tried to send em to Car Craft but their email was on the fritz. The motor in the 88 had lees than 90K miles on it and had never been rebuilt, never even tuned since it left the factory.
