My husband and I are about to purchase a 2001 Ford F150 XLT Styleside SuperCrew, 4WD from a CarMax Dealership. The price is great - truck looks great and runs perfect right now.
Before we make our final decision I wanted to get a little feedback and see what some of you current owners of the F150's think of your truck. Have you been satisfied in general? Any major problems/defects with the truck??
Many thanks for your input!

Reason: typos
i bought a 2001 crew cab a month ago, local owner 125,000 high way miles. i think its great. i put ball joints on the front end, changed all the oils, and have 1000 miles on it since then. 4wd, 5.4 V8, plan to drive it another 100,000. Had a 89 supercab long bed before that. i like the crew, with the short box.
I have a 97 4.6 150 with 140,000 on it. have not had any problems with it at all. I did change the ball joints and tie rods ends to fix the front end shake that the 36" mickey thompsons were giving it. Runs great and wouldn't think of buying anything else.
Ive got a '99 F-150: 4x4, XLT, reg cab, 8' bed with the Off-Road Package.
I bought it 4 years ago, at that time it had 68,000 miles on it. Right now it has 125,800 miles on it.
My truck has been pretty good to me. It usually needs a repair once a year, but it has never cost me more than $100 to repair.
It gets 18 mpg on the highway and as of yet has never left me stranded (knock on wood). When it snows in the wintertime, all I need to do is reach down a click the little **** over to 4H and it takes me anywhere I need to go.
Ive used it for hauling firewood and hauling my snowmobile and it handles it just fine.
Sure, there are some minor things I could complain about, but its really nit-picking.
Overall Ive been pleased with my F-150 and most likely I will buy another Ford when my F-150 has 200,000 miles on it. Im not sure if I will end up with another F-250, an F-250 SD or a Toyota full-size.
Octane
I have a 97 with the 4.6. It now has 185000 miles on it and has had no major problems. The biggest thing I had to change besides the clutch (partly my fault) was the ball joints and tie rod ends. Other than that all that was changed were regular wear items. I plan on getting plenty more miles out of this truck and I love it more every mile I go down the road.
go to www.flatratetech.com then go to the ford forum and post the vin and ask them to run a oasis on it. Oasis will show all recalls, warranty work, or any work ford has done to it. Just might save ya from buying someone else's problems. We have a '01 F-150 Supercrew 4x4 with a 4.6 and love it. If you get a 5.4 ask if it has the updated sparkplugs, if not then plan on replacing the plugs soon, before it spits one out. Those engines are noted for that.
