Help me pick new shoes

Ok folks I'm looking for some help here. I currently have 285 75/16 D load BF Goodrich AT KO's with about 3/4 tread left on them. They hum to no end, and it bug's the hech out of me, so off they go.

I'm looking at the following AT tires which I'm told are not as loud, and give a nice ride. However I can't make up my mind.

Michelin LTX MS 265 75/16 E load $780.00 out the door.

Bridgestone Revo's 265 75/16 e load $909.00 out the door.

Cooper Discovery ATR 265 75/16 E load $754.00 out the door.

I drive a company car during the week, so my F350 truck is a weekend thing, and I do pull a 8,000lb TV for camping and hunting, and don't do a lot of off roading.

thanks for your help.
Rich

you can see the tires at tirerack.com, i also have the BFG,s (same size and model) mine dont seam loud at all however the mileage i have got out of them sucks, at a little over 25,000 they are about shot. i think my next set are going to be the Revos, i have only heard great things about them. i am going to stick with the same size (285/75-16) why do you want to go smaller?

I just replaced my Cooper Discoverer LT 255/85x16 with Cooper Discoverer ATR 285/75x16 and there is a world of difference. The ATR is a much quieter tire and the ride is improved enough Lovely Wife did not blink at the invoice once we made a 500 mile round trip run to Cleveland and back. You do not say what your truck is but the 285/75 fits on my factory aluminum wheels and the only clearance issue is at full lock moving forward - I get a rub on the back side of the tire on the radius arm that runs from the frame to the TTB axle. Not enough to worry about in my book.

I got @70,000 miles out of the Discoverer, I will be interested to see how the ATR does.

I highly recommend the ATR.

I'm going back to the OEM 265 to get an E load, and to see if I pick up some extra MPG. Other than that no particular reason. Maybe just to try a different sized tire. The tires are for my 2000 F350 Crew LB

I have always been very happy with Coopers. All my vehicles have some type of Cooper tire on them. I have not tried the new AT/R yet, I bought my last set of Cooper Discoverer ATs last year just before the AT/Rs were released.

I have used the Michelin LTX MS for several years and have had great luck with them. Got over 95,000 miles on one set on a 1/2 ton. I have used them on 6 company pickups and three personal 4x4s and have no complaints. Milage has been great and have only had 2 flats in ten years of on and off road use. I recently went back to them on my F250 4x4 PSD after trying to save money on other brands. Could only get 35-40,000 miles on the other company's tires. This recent set has 15,000 miles and look like new.

They are a little pricey compared to some other brands, but I am convinced they save me money. The ride is quiet, smooth and they make the vehicle handle better. I am on county gravel and ranch dirt roads at least half time. They are great on dirt, rocks and mud, but not as good as some other treads on snow and ice. But the extra milage makes up for driving a little slower on snow and ice.

Hope this helps.

Randy

I have over 50K miles on the E rated Michelins and looks like they have another 20K or so left at least. Very satisfied with the tires and the wear.

I went with the Cooper Discoverer ATR in a 285 when I pitched the BFG's. A lot quieter and are wearing good so far.

I have had no problems with Cooper tires. My F-150 is on a second set, and the only reason I changes it, was to get a more offroad tire. When I ran over a quarter inch lag bolt, there was no question what tire I was going to put on. I chose Cooper A/T over the ATR because of the way the roads get up here in the winter. Bottom line can't go wrong with Cooper tires.
