I've got a '78 F250 with 460. It has the original Motocraft carb and the spacer ported EGR system. My problem is that when I start the truck cold I can hear an exhaust leak. It goes away after it's warmed up but it keeps blowing the spacer and carb base gaskets at the right rear corner where the EGR port is. I've had these things off several times and I can't see any warping or anything else on the spacer that would cause this. It seems to sit on the manifold right but obviously something isn't correct.
Is there anything else I'm not catching that could be causing this?
K,
Eliminate the EGR system!
It suites no productive service. What sense does it make to recirculate combustion products through your motor? Buy a phenolic/plastic spacer and be done with it.
Good luck,
