I've been listening to Dwight Yoakum more recently, since he's rated highly on my Yahoo Launchcast radio station. One of the albums: "dwightyoakumacoustic.net", is simply awesome. It's mostly just Dwight and his acoustic guitar as the title implies. (the .net implies nothing, by the way). He renders incredible acoustic interpretations of many of his classics.
I've always enjoyed his music. But, with this album, I think he's moved up on my list of favorites and could be considered one of the greatest country musicians of all time. I think he's less prolific than many, because he chooses to be picky. (Unlike some other greats: Straight, Jackson, Brooks etc)
acoustic.net is a great cd! Over the years I've been kind of an off and on Dwight fan, but that cd sealed the deal - I can listen to it all the time. Dwight's a tremendous talent, and I appreciate that he keeps his music always true to the same vein. That's prob'ly been both good and bad for his career, because it seems like most folks either love his music, or hate it.
I bought "Guitars Cadillacs, etc. etc." on vinyl twice. It skipped on both copies and so I finally took a cassette from the record store puke. He looked at me like I came from another planet, and I looked at him and his parachute pants and his mullet complete with the super perm on the back of his neck and thought thoughts that are contrary to the premise of turning the other cheek and so forth. Anyway, I just about wore that cassette out and I've been a fan ever since.
My brother saw him at St. Louis a few years ago. (He goes to many more concerts than I do) and he said it was the best concert he'd ever been to. He scored it higher than the Zoo TV tour, which he raved about for months.
he is one of my favorites, he did a couple of elvis songs that were great and i also like his videos, and he's not afraid to do things a little differant.
I've got a live cd from a concert in San Francisco (I think). Tremendous. Suspicious minds and A thousand Miles from Nowhere are two of my favorite songs.
