First let me thank this forum for the tips on removing the TB and cleaning the EGR ports. I was amazed at how plugged my ports were. At 160K miles it was time. I had/have the same P0401 code. Question: I am sure the clogged ports on my TB was the culprit for my code, but will the check engine light go off immediately after the repair (assuming EGR and DPFE are good) or do I have to wait for the drive cycles to complete before the CEL will go off? I also thought about pulling battery cable.
Thanks again forum for the tips !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
As part of the fix, I pulled the battery cable first before opening her up.
At that point, the light is reset when you start it back up unless you get the same or another code.
I think you would be ahead of the game to pull the cable for 20 minutes instead of waiting to see if it will go out.
