I'm getting close to bolting on my radiator support. The bolt kit I bought comes with a couple round rubber stoppers that bolt onto the bottom of the support and rest on the frame crossmember. These weren't original equipment on my '53. I think they started using them in '56. They seem to be a good idea. It would keep the sheet metal from drooping to the side. My '48-'56 parts manual shows that they bolt to the radiator support. My '53 support doesn't have the holes. Anybody with a '56 (George ) that can measure where these holes are located?
FFF, It would seem like a good idea to have some flex up front to better align the hood to the cowl. If you make it too fixed in place. it seems like it may be a problem. The fender support rods should keep everything from flexing once you have the alignment where you like it. Are you planning on installing both the middle bolts as well as the two outside? If so, I guess it would be no big deal to remove the outside bolts if you need to. Jag
Mike my center rubber gasket was about 3/8" thick. FFF: Sorry, I misunderstood what you were talking about. But the picture makes a world of difference. It looks like youm could use them without any worries. Jag

Kevin....great thread for me. Mine didn't have those bumpers and I didn't have a clue what those two holes were for. On mine the middle hole is a large cross (+) shaped hole, is that original? Thanks....

Kevin, our trucks are on more or less parallel courses in terms of their progress. Last weekend I mounted my radiator support. There was nothing to indicate that the little rubber bumpers were ever on my truck. I installed them anyway, thinking that they seemed like a good idea. There is still a lot of freedom of movement for the radiator support, even with the bumpers. And the ones that I got seem to be somewhat adjustable, in that they sit lower on the frame cross member the more one tightens them up.
