Heres what i did to hotwire my '77. First, remove the igniton switch to make it easier to work on. next, figure out where the wires are going. This is easily done with a 12 volt test light. There will be a wire that brings power to the switch. these will be two wires for the ignition. one is for the starter and the other is for the duraspark "bypass". there may be one or two wires for the on or accessory. you will need two switches. The first needs to be a single pole/single throw. the second needs to be momentary. after finding the correct wires, simply connect the power wire to both of the switches. the two ignition wires go to the momentary switch and the rest of the wires go to the spst switch. to start the truck simply turn on the spst switch and flip the momentary until it runs. I have three tips if you plan on doing this. First, use a heavy guage wire, at least a #10. Second, if you take the ignition switch apart you can insert the blade type crimp connectors into it. this way, if you ever decide to buy a new switch you wnt have to cut the wires. Third, replace thye front of the opld switch, it is a good deterrent for theives.
i have found this setup to be invaluable. it is so much easier to move the truck around when you dont have to look for keys. it also has a certain degree of "cool". there may be some people who say that this wont work, however my '77 has been like this for over a year now without any problems.
hope this helps.
PS. it will only cost about $10 and take about an hour to do
