Just bought my youngest son an 89 Fill size Bronco. It has some rough spots but seems to run ok, has 140K and we had to replace the driver seat (broke off the floor mounts) and the window (drivers side is nit attached to the arm. Question, anyone know how the arm that raises and lowers the window is attached to the glass? All we have is a (what looks like) a roller on the end of this crank (has power windows). it looks like there should be a channel that this roller rides in and that channel should be attached to the bottom of the glass...not sure anyone got a drawing of picture?
I've seen some post that describe the how to in replacing the passenger side valve cover gasket. My local shop said it long (2 hours) but just a unbolt replace gaskets) and re-bolt even the Plenum (sp)..and it's a pain but said no big deal. I assume we should also clean all we can and all. My question would be since we don't own a torque wrench how tight should we bolt down the cover bolts...how careful do we need to be? Any suggestions on the overall replacement process would be nice.
One last item, he said once when he drove off in second gear it seemed to sputter, I have not heard this yet but just base upon what he describes it sounds like maybe it wasn't warmed-up and maybe chocking out or fuel situation...he feels it's a trannie slip but I've never heard a trannie do anything close to that? Any thoughts?
Neither one of us have ever owned a Bronco, both have Ford trucks, so any help nice to know stuff would be nice..thanks

Well the first thing I think you should do is to buy a torque wrench.....you dont need a $500 unit......get a Craftsman one for like $50-$60. Next you should get a Haynes manual...or Chilton....and even a factory repair CD (the CD's can be bought here....somewhere, or on ebay).
Then take it one step at a time.......first I would get the engine all clean and check for the source of all leaks....then decide what one(s) you want to fix first. Then I would look into the tires, brakes, and suspension components....just to stay on the safe side. Then give it a FULL tune-up(belts and hoses also)......no half steps or cutting corners here.....just use the search function and people here will be more than willing to walk you through what parts and why. Next I would check the driveline.....trans, t-case, u-joints, diff front and rear.
As far as the window.....well I am sure someone here has a diagram of it they can help out with.....or the CD or manual should have one.
Good luck with it.....OH BTW you want to adopt a new not so younger son
Ha ha Streetgang...adopt another aye? Well I have 5 kids from 36 to 17...and the 17 yo takes up most of my time as is ...your advise is well taken and I guess I will get a wrench..whats the setting for the bolts on the cover anyway?...
Yes one step at a time ...the first is the book. We did this when I got him a 76 high boy...(he sure messed that one up)..anyway time to do over. Thanks again!
Not exactly sure on the torque specs on the valve cover bolts, but I would think between 25-30 lb/ft should do it. I think they have all that info in one of the manuals.....like all the pertinent torque specs.
If your feeling real **** about it, and dont think you can do it by "feel", I will try to look it up for you.....just let me know.
Steve (Steetgang)...you have some beautiful trucks on your site...man I love them all! Out here everyone is into Pick-ups and how high they can raise them up...this has to be Pick-up heaven. Sure Bronco's are cool as well it's that we seem to have a pick-up in each drive way...I assume a lot of has to do with living in the Pac NW, hauling crap and all the oputoddr suff one can do but man I sure love those trcucks of your's! You muct have spend tons of money and time on them...are you with the PD out there or Fire? We have a few guys out here who volunteer and have Bronco's . Many of our Mountain Search and rescue do as well.
