Has anyone done a rear drum to disc conversion on a 1981 F150-2WD Pick up?
I have been getting many conflicting opinions:
1-You have to change the master cylinder-
2-Master cylinder is OK-but you have to change the power booster
3-Master cylinder & power booster is OK,but you have to change the proportioning valve
etc........................
Any ideas anyone.
HELP!!!!!
Thank you.
I know there is at least one thread that tells it all.... I'd look in the brake or axle forums as well. Seems like all the parts come off a Lincoln. As to WHICH parts... can't recall for sure so I don't want to give you bogus info.
Thread moved to "Brakes, Steering, Suspension,Tires, Wheels" Forum. There should be more info here in this forum and I am sure someone will be posting directly to help you out.
You will definitely need to change the master cylinder and prop valve. An adjustable prop valve would be best. Drum brakes require much more pressure to be effective than disc brakes. The booster should be fine.
Are you swapping in a factory 9" disc brake axle from a lincoln or going with an aftermarket kit?
I would like to keep my stock rear axle-IF POSSIBLE.
I am trying to save money,so used parts would be fine, but we can't sacrifice safety for a few bucks.
I need someone knowledgeable to say which used parts I need or where I can purchase a kit.
Thanks to everyone.
Mike
