I am supposed to pull a uhaul to Kansas city from Nashville Thursday. I stopped by the uhaul place today to check my wiring harness and it did nothing. Uhaul will not let you take the trailer without working lights. So I have till Thursday to get to the bottom of this. I checked the fuses, all in the dash were intact, under the hood #1 was blown I replaced it. I looked at the wiring harness under the truck and found the ground was not attatched to the frame. I put a new end on it and re-attatched it. Still nothing. I do not have a pile of cash to pay someone for repairing this and need all the help I can get as quick as I can get it. I have access to a voltmeter. But am in bad need of FAST HELP!
I have never towed with it so this whole item was on the out of sight out of mind list. Now of course it is a crisis. Don't it figure.
Is your Xpe a factory trailer package vehicle? If not you may have to put the relays in the fuse box under the hood where all the big amp fuses are. You may want to check those relays (or maybe their high amp fuses) even if your vehicle was supposedly trailer ready.
Also check the ground again to be sure its good and clean. If possible, hold your (-) voltmeter lead on there and run a wire from the battery (+) just to be sure it's a good ground.
Well, it is already fixed, thanks mcn420 for the quick reply.
I did some more crawling around, and found where some MORON ,and I use that term in lieu of my chosen term, had used a piece of baling wire to secure the harness to the frame. It had worn through the insulation on the Orange wire and was shorting the whole assembly to the frame. Spliced the wire, took some time to properly wrap and then secure the entire harness to the frame, and replaced one 20 amp micro-fuse. ON DOWN THE ROAD!!!
Thanks ahead of time fellas, and gals if there are any hanging out!
