I have a 76 f250 with a 390/c-6, rv cam/intake/4v/headers. My vacuum to my modulator on the tranny is about 17 inches. Is this too little?? I have a slip from 2-3. What should my vacuum be from my vacuum advance to my carb. What if I have none?? If these are all too low which lines should I replace?

I don't think that vacuum is the issue, you can adjust the modulator valve with a thin flat headed screwdriver. Remove the vac. line from the modulator valve, insert the screwdriver into the vacuum port of the valve, turn it 1 full turn. Reinstall the hose and go for a test drive. If it isn't fixed try another turn. I usually turn mine in until it wont shift at all, then back it out about 2 turns. Usually works pretty good.

If you had low vacuum, the 1-2 shift would be delayed also. Check the fluid on the dipstick. It should be pink if it's new, or bright red to maroon if it's old. If it's brown and smells burn't, try changing the fluid and the filter. If that doesn't fix it, it looks bad for the tranny.
Lower vacuum can give you an early 1-2 shift and a sluggish 2-3 shift.
This is why I would try adjusting it first. I have had good success several times by doing this.
A pocket sized one will work. Just small enough to go into the vacuum port of the modulator valve. It is usually hard to see unless the valve is off of the tranny.
