I have a 1960 that someone put a v8 in and I believe it might be a 428, the block is stamped 352 but I was told that it could be a 352, 390, or 428, could someone please tell me how find out which engine it is, the engine has a lot of edelbrock parts on it and I would like to sell the truck to finance my origonal 1959 4x4f250. thanks, any help would be apreciated (Click Here to find out why email addresses are removed from posts.)
The 352 means nothing - many blocks have this. You will have to measure the stroke to see if it is a 360 or 390. 428's are rare and have special markings - see the FE forum, they have a sticky on that.
To measure the stroke, just pull a plug and insert a long plastic straw into the hole. With the piston at the bottom of the stroke mark some convenient marker point on the straw. Rotate the engine until the piston is at the top of its stroke and mark the straw again.
Measure the distance between the marks - 3.5 inch is a 360, 3.75 is a 390 or larger.
