Question Hot Headers

To catch you all up before I ask this question: I just installed a reman. motor into my '90 351. Upon starting it the first time, my new bassani headers started glowing, but the water temp. was normal (started cold and slowly climbed to halfway between the "C" for cold and the "N" in normal). The heat melted a vacuum hose which I replaced today. It's the peach colored one that runs to the bottom of the regulator looking thing above the passenger side headers. I think it's just a worthless piece of the emissions system.

I started the engine again today, and again the vacuum tube melted even after I wrapped it in loom, and tied it as far away as possible from the headers. Finally the question: have those of you with bassani headers had this problem of producing so much heat that your melting stuff and changing the appearance of the HTC on the headers?

Thanks in advance, I'm really frustrated about this.
