Hollow sound

Hollow sound
1988 f150 5 speed manual 4.9 litre makes what I can only describe as a hollow sound when I accelerate from each gear change.
Changed the usual sucked in throttle body gasket; replaced rusted out coffee can; several vacuum lines;egr valve and solenoid.
Can't find any exhaust leaks.
Any ideas?

i'm leaning more in the direction of something wrong with either the gearbox or the differential. More towards the gearbox. Maybe soemthing clutch related because of it happening only after a gear change. The reason being that if it was something wrong wit the engine, then you'd hear the noise in neutral as well. Does this happen only at a certain rpm or does that not make a difference?
