Supercharging the 300...

So would it be possible to take the supercharger off say a pontiac bonneiville ssei or comparable 3.8 with the long neck supercharger, and mounting it onto the 300-6 efi manifold, and plugging the old throttle body hole, buying 1 of those piggy back resistors, and just installing a single 5.0 ltr throttle body on the back of the supercharge and a custom intake. Maybe getting 1 of those fuel pressure boosters that boost based on actual vaccuum pressures to boost the injectors a bit. I think these things ran about 10 to 13 PSI. But im sure you could add basically a wastgate to the intake manifold itself without any real problems, i think thats what im going to do because i have access to a milling maching for the intake manifold work and i will hit the junkyard up for the super, maybe it wont be quite as efficient and will allow me to keep boost at tolerable levels.

<---- Has a Vortech'ed Mustang, so kinda knows what he's talking about.

Most people don't realize you have to rev a motor for boost, even with a roots type SC (a centrifugal would bite in this application). And the 300 is not a reving motor. And you described an FMU for the fuel system, and a lot of tuners will tell you flat out that is a "band aid" fix. And a bad one at that. In order to get the boost at a RPM you could use, you'd have to spin the blower really fast at a low RPM, (not to mention that your by-pass valve would be getting quite a workout.) And even then, you could easliy overspin it. And 10-13 pounds of boost is overkill (even on my Mustang, with stock internals I run 10 pounds of boost. I have a good tune. But I'm proably living on borrowed time), all you'd need would actually be just 4-5. For ever lb of boost equals 12 to 15 hp (on average).

And the Speed Density computer system would be a nice issue to deal with too It doesn't seem to like mods like this one...

A roots blower doesn't need rpm to make boost. My Lightning has 8 lbs before I can get the pedal all the way to the floor.

TC, there was a thread about mounting an Eaton to the top of an EFI manifold a while back. I was thinking about trying it, but the deal on the blower fell through. The snout is way too short to make it an easy bolt on. The top of the EFI manifold is also less than 1/4" thick and a lot smaller than the blower base, so you would have to weld an adaptor plate to the top of it. An FMU might be a bandaid fix, but it works.

I dont know what kind it is, but i know it works, it was on my moms car, a bonnieville ssei, and it kicked @$$, full boost was almost instantanious, within a second of flooring it, i think the limiting factor on those is in the throttle body, allowing just enough air in when closed or slight throttle, but when you floor it, and the vavle opens, it boost instantly.

Well, if you really want a street rod, with some work, I would think you would be able to put a 6-71 blower on there if you had a clifford 2 4bbl manifold. You would need a lot of fabing, and a deep pocket.

deep pocket? haha i will install this, may not cost me anything... I might need a gasket rather than rtb, but the super i will yank from a junkyard or something ... legallly of course... and the machine work is gonna be a friend repaying me for some moving stuff i did with him...It will probably be about 7 to 9 months anyway tho, because parents arent going to let it go, so i will do it at college.

I got fat? no i bought a car, and now all my money is going into a 1300lb car rather than the beast, still looking at a twin turbo system though.
