Yoke Nut

Can anyone tell me the size of the yoke nut of a 99 DRW F350 with a Dana 80?
Trying to replace my rear pinion seal and I need to know what size to buy at Sears for it? Biggest I got is 1 3/4" and that's too small.

Nevermind I got it. 1 7/8"
The question is how in the hell do you bust it loose? Is it left or right hand thread?

Mark the nut and the end of the pinion before you take it loose. When you tighten it you want the marks to line up. If you over tighten the nut it can cause bearing damage. The nut is pretty tight. Unless you have the prescribed tools, the best way is with an impact wrench.

ha I tried an impact wrench. No luck... It's the tightest I've ever seen.
Removal is standard (couterclockwise) right?

Counterclockwise. Try to keep the pinion flange stationary. If it floats it cushions to blows. It takes a good impact wrench and high shop air pressure. Once the nut is off, you have to get the flange off of the pinion. That's another story.

hmm... I noticed one side of my rear axle seal is leaking so I may just take it to a shop and let them do both of those projects. I usually do everything to my truck but this one might be too much for me. Especially the rear axle seal.

I would bring it somewhere. The nut is really on there takes a 1" impact sometimes.

I would believe it. I had a 1/2" on it and didn't budge. Just hope it's not gonna be expensive to replace the pinion seal and both rear axle seals. Anyone know what kind of price I should expect for work like that to be done?

It's a routine repair and you should be able to get a ballpark estimate over the phone. Unless you know of a good repair faciltiy, I would take it to a Ford dealer. Although it's not guaranteed, they should have the tools and experience to do the job properly.
