need help (wiring problems)please read
I have a 1977 F250 it has a 460 auto tranny. the other day all the sudden when I go to turn my rig over the starter starts to crank and stays cranking when the key is in the accessories position. The starter wire is staying hot I cut the wire behind the key switch and it was still hot on the relay side (not on the switch side). I've replaced the relay, regulator, and alternator nothing has seemed to work.my rig is only charging at 12.26 but the alternator when tested at the store was charging at 14. my neutral switch has been tampered with (not there). starts in any gear.someone suggested this to be the problem. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whenever you get power to the starter solenoid with the ignition key in any other position than the start position,the problem is the IGNITION SWITCH.

I believe the ign. terminal will back feed from the other small terminal in the run position. The second small terminal feeds a full twelve volts to the coil during cranking. In run the coil back feeds about 8 volts. If you have the ign terminal disconnected and it still cranks you have a welded solenoid.

old post, I broke down and took my truck to the shop. all my electrical problem was the orange and the white wires were switched on the back of the alternator causing the electrical system to back feed. The previous owners mistake
