I am having a 300 rebuilt for my 1973 F100, I am taking out the old engine and installing the new engine myself. I have a fairly good idea of what should come with a complete rebuild (crank grind, block boring, new pistons, rings, bearings, valve seats, seals, springs, new camshaft etc.) and know to make sure the engine at least comes with some kind of warranty.
Is there any other questions I should ask or anything I should watch out for when picking the shop the rebuild it?
I am looking for a local shop in Tucson, AZ as I don't want to have to deal with a shop half-way across the country in the event something does go wrong with the engine.
The 300 came out of an early 80's carbed model w/ C6. It has steel cam gear but probably a different cam than my 1973 as timing was 6 degrees in '73 and 10 degrees in '8? if I'm going to re-use the distributor from the '73 should I have the cam for 1973 spec put in. I want a stock type cam, I'm not looking for any performance gain, just a silky smooth idle.
Finally, my 1973 has a C4 in it, the flywheel sounds like it's in good shape when the starter turns the motor over, but out of curiosity are the C4 and C6 flywheels the same?
