I have a ford Ranger 1994, The A/c would be cold upon starting and then blow hot air after 5 minutes or so. Later..the engine ran hot, so I added antifreeze..Now the A/c works fine. How are these related?
I have a prob with my 94 ranger AC also. Drove it the other day worked fine. Stopped at red light and quit working. Full of AC coolant but compresser doesnt kick in. Don't have owners manual. Is there a fuse other than in the fuse panel to check. Help, hot here, lol
Buy a Haynes manual--it helps with Illustration 6-11 in Chapter 5 about AC troubleshooting. It will tell you everything to check. Especially which posts to check on the AC WOT relay. Very nice diagram....

The air conditioning condensor is a "mini radiator" used to cool off the warm freon after passing through the evaporator. It is situated directly in front of the engine radiator so the air flow can cool it off, as well as the engine radiator.
When the vehicle overheats, the heat from the engine radiator can transfer to the condensor and actually heat the freon up more, hence hot A/c.
Some cars will also shut off the A/C compressor if the engine reaches an overheat condition, once again resulting in warm air.
