Has anyone swapped a B/W T-18 or 19 in place of their E4OD?.
I want to replace the aging E4OD (185K plus) in my 92 4x4 with a manual. Previous experience with the B/W (previous f150) was great for pulling my boat and I prefer the extremely low first for pulling out of the water. I have found an 84 4x4 with the correct trans, bellhousing and misc parts. It appears that things should swap with some work...
1984 was right around the time Ford switched to a hydraulic clutch - make sure that's what you're getting, and not a mechanical clutch.
You'll need to swap crossmembers, and either modify driveshafts or swap driveshafts if the donor is the same wheelbase. You will also need a computer out of a different truck. You need to look for one from a truck with the same motor, and either a manual transmission or an early (pre-'92) AOD or any C6.
Expect your gas mileage to drop dramatically with no overdrive.
