'95 5.0 Oil Pan replacement

I've read all of the great tips on replacing the oil pan in the truck. It looks like all '87-'95's will require the upper plenum to be removed, no problem. One small item that I see no mention of. Do you use any sealer/RTV/Right Stuff anywhere when using the one piece style pan gasket?

Thanks,

I used a very small amount of silicone sealer on the tabs at the bearing cap and at the joints between the front cover and the block.

Heck, I glued the whole gasket down to the pan, just to make it easier when I put it back together. I didn't want that gasket moving all over the place. I still ended up having to take all the bolts back out and reset the gasket behind the harmonic balancer as it got pushed in at the bottom of the cut-out there (it was getting dark and starting to rain...grrr).

Block of wood?

What size (LxWxTHK) of a piece of wood is needed to place under the engine mounts? I thought I'd cut these before the gasket change this weekend? Why does Chilton's say to remove the trans crossmember? What does having the crossmember removed, do for you?

Thanks,

if you do not move trans up then pan no clear. even then it will be tough. the size of wood varies. i had some scraps around and used them. that is the least of your worries.
