pinging problem 4.0 sohc
I have an 01 ranger 4.0 with 55,000 miles. When going up hills, I hear spark knock. I run middle grade gas and tried different gas stations with no change. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Could be a number of things causing the ping.
Things like, a vacuum hose or lower intake manafold gasket Vacuum leak, faulty EGR system, clogged air filter, dirty MAF sensor, faulty TPS, wrong heat range spark plugs, combustion chamber carbon deposit build up, timing problem, or even the SHOC timing chain rattle, that sometimes sounds like spark knock, ect, ect.
So we need some more clues to narrow our guesses down some.
If you haven't already done so, have the computer scanned for trouble codes or pending codes, at your favorite autoparts store, then post ALL the codes found.
This could help in our making better guesses on where to begin looking for the root cause.
Most autoparts stores will do it at no cost.
Did this problem begin suddenly, after some event, or slowly over time????
Are you up to date on past & present scheduled maintenance????
