Is my CPU usage % too high?

I have recently noticed that my cpu is running at 50% and that seems rather high to me. I checked all of my process online and determined that everything that is running, needs to be. Any suggestions on how to cut this percentage down, if I need to at all? I copied the system info below from Belarc.

if it stays at 50 or higher you have processes running in the back ground. your processor should drop down 0-1% when not doing anything. you could have spyware/virus causing the problem also.

Ditto. You or anyone in your address book been getting lots more spam lately? If so, it may just be coming from your PC.

We use a web based email (gmail), but no, we haven't. I ran ad-aware and spybot. They found a few things, but after I removed them, I did not see any noticeable change. I am running a full system scan with McAfee right now.

You need to look at the processes running. There is something there that isn't right. ctrl+alt+del and look at the list and check it at http://www.liutilities.com/products/...rocesslibrary/
This will tell you whether you may have a problem with a virus or trojan. I assume you Virus definitions are up to date.
With around 40+ processes on my PC, normal usage is 1-2% max.

I did that already but thank you for the suggestion. I ran virus scan and found nothing. As a last ditch effort, I rebooted. Now all is good.

If you are having trouble with spyware, I would download and use the following. Also they have weekly updates.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

They are both freeware. Do searches with both.

I had a simular problem a few weeks ago. Turned out to be the software that came with my video card (Nvidia). Did an update on their website and have not had problems since.
