I'm going to be rebuilding my 351M in the next couple of months and I'm looking for some ideas. I know there aren't a lot of after market performance parts for the 351M, but I figure there must be something I can do. I know for now I will be upgrading to a four barrel carb & manifold. An I am going to paint the engine "Ford Red" to match the body. I also plan to add a lot of chrome as far as fittings and stuff. I also am going back to manifolds. After two engine swaps this month I realize headers are a pain in the a** and the get in the way all the time. I was curious about the MSD iginition systems and all that other after market crap. Anyone have any suggestions?
get a 400 crank, and then get a rebuild master kit for a 1971 400 passenger car (LTD or Marquis) you get 9:1 pistons, a decent cam (you can upgrade if you wish) the only decent timing chain set for this engine family (1971 is all by itself) and in stock 2v trim it produced 260 hp/400 lbs ft torque. with a performer 400 intake and a tuned 650cfm carb it really does well.
9:1 comp works well on pump gas
the timing set for a 1971 is advanced compared to all years after 1972
the stock cam is pretty good with proper cam timing
a 400 crank and a set of 400 pistons would bring you up to 400 cubes and put in a 262 cam or so with a dual timeing chain andhave your heads re done and have the ports evened out ( as in smooth aall the slag ridges and stuff )
