auto power window conv for 83

anybody convert their dr pw to auto down like in the newer trucks? its just wiring in a module right? that would be cool with a keyless pdl on an 83. im also gonna convert the cargo light to a cargo/brake light from a mid 90's for a one of a kind look and c how many people notice.

I have done this and is very simple. Go to your local junk yard and find an 80's truck or bronco and remove all of the switches and wires for the power windos and locks. or you can do like i did not found a set on ebay for about $40. The only dificalt part is i had to cut holes in the door it self where the wires go through. but to do this i just removed the door and cut the holes with a dremal. me and a buddy did it in about 3 hours.

If you already have the stereo radio, the holes and rubber hose, "Thingmys" are already instaled in the doors.

You guys missed this one by a mile.

He already has power windows. He wants to press the button for a half a second and get the window to roll all the way down without having to hold the button down.

Unless someone sells a kit, you'd probably be able to go to the junkyard and snag a set of switches from a new truck and mount them in place of your old switches. Let me know how this works - I'd be interested in it as well.

LOL,

Ok, well I now feel like a doofus.

My wifes 97 taurus and mother in laws 96 windstar both have the feature of auto down.

In the windstar there is a module hooked to the driver window switch that if you push the switch down for less than a second, the window will automaticly go all the way down. It is burnt in my mom in laws windstar so the auto feature doesn't work anymore. Someday I'll replace the thingmy.

RANT: why are the power windows in the newer cars so "crappy?" end rant.

Anyway to mod an older truck to this system, I would look into the newer 92 to 96 select 97 etc at a wrecking yard, that has auto down, and take what you need to make it work. Most of the internal parts of the doors are the same and are compatible with our trucks. etc.. so you MIGHT even be able to use your old switches too.

Even the whole doors and plastic door panels are bolt on, and are compatible but look quite different etc...

Hope this helps...

Do a search on the net for "autolock one touch up and down" controls that is one company that makes/sells them. Here is one link to a dealer that supplies them. http://www.importstreetscenes.com/ex...ndows/autoloc/ I have looked in to this my self and will install them on both trucks soon!
