FM132 - Fill tranny thru shifter hole?

Just replaced clutch in my '90 ranger 2.9 2wd with Mitsubishi FM132 transmission.

I dumped a lot of the gear oil from the tranny in the process and need to fill up.

Can I just pour oil (SAE 80w as specified) through the top shifter hole before I put it back together - up to the level of the side fill plug of the tranny?

Sure you can. That's what I did with my old toyota. poured it in to the shifter hole, slowley of course, and waited for it to drip out the side fill hole.

Yep - thanks mike93 - that's what I did last night. I wasn't sure, til I poured some in with the drain plug removed and it started coming out the bottom. I had seen a web site that said it couldn't be done - but that was for an RX7 tranny, I think.

Drove to work today and clutch feels like new, well, I guess it should. Now to make sure I've stopped the oil leak into the bell housing.

Hopfully you used the side fill plug and not the drain plug as you stated above!!!

Actually, I did have the bottom drain plug out - just to make sure the gear oil was going where it needed to go. As soon as it started dripping out, I put the drain plug in and then filled it up to the side fill plug level.

Yeah, it might sound like I'm inexperienced ... and that would be true, but, I'm learning.
