It'll never work unless you plan on walking for a year. Wisen up! You still need the fuel whether you buy it now or later. I everbody in the US boycotts fuel for a month, then what are you gonna do next month? They have your money either way.
If its the same old "dont buy gas from Oil Company X on day such and such", then don't waste the bandwidth. If you don't buy fuel on one day, then buy it on the next day, what the heck is the difference to them? Matter of fact, whenever I get one of these emails, I often go out of my way to fill up on the day of the supposed boycott, but I'm a contrarian sometimes!
If everyone drove a bit less, used their more economical car (if they have multiple vehicles like most of us) etc, and fuel sales went down even 2 or 5%, that would have an impact. However, I just read that gas sales are 1.7% higher this month than this time last year!

It doesn't take a month. Do you work for an oil co.? Talk about wise up. Explain why diesel is more than gas. So the oil co's can pocket more money on their record profits.
The only way we can truly boycott something like this is to have a viable alternative like Bio-diesel or something along those lines. It goes without saying that Bio is still more expensive than petro and they know it. So the gouging continues.

Bio is within 60 cents of dino in my neck of the woods.
Of course I'm paying 2.50 + for dino.
Soy (with a rebate too) is 3.20 a gal.
I was told by a local fueling station that the reason why diesel is higher than premium unleaded, is that the EPA has passed a law requiring diesel producers to begin de-sulferize the fuel. So the start up cost associated with the process is passed on to us, the consumers.

sorry to say.. quick it right on the money... they know people will keep using the fuel... so they keep raising the prices for no reason at all... the only thing you can do is what i did... alter your driving habits somehow so that your fuel consumption is reduded... i cut mine by more than 75%... can't tell you how much $ that has saved me, but the the figure gets higher every time the cost of diesel goes up...!
this has been one I have discussed many time with many people and it's true the boycotts as discussed will NOT have any affect the oil companies just laugh (and I have heard but can't prove it that they even start most of them cause if you watch the day after the supposed fuel boycott gas prices are higher DUH).
If you really wanted to hurt them, and make a difference a boycott of sorts is needed but it would require you too be put out too much. but here is my idea, and even if only 10% of hte people did it I gaurentee it would have some affect.
So the next holiday weekend instead of going on a trip or to the lake or even to the store, STAY HOME, that's right set up the camper in teh backyard and have the neighbors over for a BBQ, don't drive anywhere even to the store, and get your neighbors to do the same thing. This also means don't get on a plane, train or bus either. What affect will this have that the boycotts don't simple if you boycott for a day, and still burn the gas they just sell it to you later but if you don't burn the gas then you won't be buying it later so it's lost income, and if we could get 50% of the people that normally travel on a holiday weekend to stay home it would be approx a $300,000,000 hit to the oil companies, plus a MAJOR hit to the airlines, hotels, restuarants, and tourist spots which would in turn be jumping up and down that the fuel prices were killing thier business (which combined is much larger than the oil companies) and then if hte oil companies didn't do something different congress WOULD get involved.
Now to answer the question Yes I stay home and don't drive if I need something I walk to the store (and try to not even do that)
you are spot on mosterbaby.. i have done this before... take a holiday weekend and STAY HOME..! you save money... you save the frustration of driving in that traffic... and come tuesday the tank still has fuel in it...! one point i would like to make.. and this really tee's me off..! have you ever noticed how fuel prices go WAY UP right BEFORE a long holiday weekend...? i mean COME ON...! do they really think we don't notice that...! talk about sticking it to the average joe...!
The only way it could work is if the general public were to pick on one company and just not buy fuel there....This is highly unlikely and the other oil companies would probably kick in and bail out what ever company was boycotted in order to keep their prices high...
I don't really see any hope for lower world oil prices untill after the next US election, I mean what are the odds of another Texas Oil tycoon running the free world?

The chances of another rich person with interests in oil becoming President are close to 100%, but let's keep politics out of the forum, truck stuff, remember?
