Need help with fuel sending unit

I have a 1984 F-150 with dual tanks and needed to replace back tank (leaking) I replaced the with one from a 96 F-150, which was free by the way it was wrecked, tank fit fine and works perfectly except for the fuel gauge I understand they changed the ohms on the sending units around 1989 but I am needing to know if there is a way to change either the gauge on the instument cluster to a newer version (I'am going to replace front tank shortly also) or if anyone had any ideas on how to correct this issue without adding any more gauges outside of the current instrument cluster. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

If the sending unit from your old tank fits in the new tank, that would be the easiest way to go. I have heard about people using newer instrument clusters in older trucks, but i'm not sure on how the wiring and install would go.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well.
I had assumed that the resistance values were the same throughout the 73'-96' years. I'm using a 96' rear tank and a 95' main tank for the EFI swap in my 77'. My wirings not done so I don't know how the gauge works.

I have a sender in my hand, I bought it at the Ford dealer, it is for a 92 F-series. Full is 160 ohms and empty is 16 ohms.
