gear lube
What is the difference between GL-4 and GL-5 gearlube. Is it just the weight or what. I have a tranmission that takes GL-4 and rear end that takes GL-5. Is it OK to use one or the other in both. Thanks for the imput.

GL-5 has extreme pressure additives for hypoid gearsets, GL-4 does not. Those additives contain sulfur compounds which are corrosive to "yellow" metals, such as synchro rings in older manual transmissions. It is not a good idea to use GL-4 in your rear axle. GL-5 may be used in transmissions if they do not have bronze or brass parts. Redline MT-90 is perfect for those transmissons that do.
