Bought a 98 EB explorer with the 4.0 SOHC. It has 76000 miles and is in very good shape. determined which dealer did the maintenance and got a print out of all the service. The truck has recieved regular LOF every 3K. The timing chain " cassettes" were changed on both sides at 30000 miles in 12/00. The
work involved 11 hours and was done under warranty. The 00M12 has NOT been done.
-Question-
Did the timing chain "cassettes" replacement likely cover the 00M12 recall? The dealer can't say. If not, should I replace the guides and tensioners now, even though they are not making noise?
If the cassettes were changed under warranty, and you don't hear the symptom, I'd consider it fixed and leave well enough alone. I had my Ranger done, and it never fixed the problem.
