600 miles ago my ford dealership found my smoking problem that i was having since day one setember of 2004..They found that the EGR valve was stuck in the open position at idle causing an over rich mixture which in turn caused the engine to smoke excessively...They replace EGR valve, a new revision part number....well it only lasted about 600 miles..Now smoking heavily again, same problem but now i have a turbo noise also over 3000 rpms....
Is this truck a lemon??? all my friends have these trucks 2004's and 2005's..with no problems.....
I called the dealer again, told them the problem is back...they said they would contact the rep for their area....that was 4 days ago and no calls back..
I really don't know what to do here..Should i just get rid of it or turn this matter over to my lawyer
IMHO, try again to work with your dealer face to face. Be polite yet firm. Document everything everyone says/does and then hold them to it. Remember polite yet firm....They are there to serve YOU. Without us there would be no FMC.
Thanks for anwering..I have been very polite...I'm dealing directly with the service manager....who understands my concerns but he can't touch my truck unless he gets a hold of a rep from ford....That i don't understand...The truck is not throwing any codes...the first EGR didn't either....something is intermitently causes a rich mixture in turn clogging up the EGR piston with soot that opens and closes the valve....I even called another ford dealer, spoke to the service manager, told him the problems and he didn't want to get involved......since another dealer has touched the truck....this i never heard of....Calling fords customer service is a waist of time....
sting454. See the thread in this forum (6.0L) "To EBP or EGR (turbo boost issues)?" Here is the link as well. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=401076
Check out my last comment and the other links.
Some are out of the woods before us and their problems have been eliminated (see the " Bucking truck thread"). So hang in there and share this information with your dealer. I'm frustrated and just want my truck the way it was before, the best truck I ever had the pleasure to drive and own.
I picked up my PSD X today, they had it for 3 weeks. They put in a newly redesigned EGR valve and a redesigned turbo. The EGR valve was only replaced in April and the new one was available since June. The turbo looks different, it actually looks better. They also put in the flash that was released late Wednesday and was available Thursday morning. I drove the truck in the city, country and the interstate for hours. It did not smoke or buck. It did however surge like you would believe. It surges in the middle to end of each gear (AT), shifts and surges through the next gear. It won't hold a steady RPM without some surging. They warned me of this when I picked it up and suggest that I drive for a little while it adapts to my driving.
Downsized2x, Thanks for the info but i own a 2005 F350...2004's had turbo problems...I already have the newer turbo and the re designed EGR valve...I have plenty of boost according to the gauge....My truck doesn't seem to have the power it had like when i first took it for a ride from the dealers lot...600 miles later after i bought it ....it started smoking excessively especially while stopping on a incline...other cars behind me and on the side of me were being fumigated(spell check)..I would smell it from in the cab while this smoking thing was happening, but i only did it a few times before the truck really warmed up each day...I'm not talking about water temperature, what i mean is cylinder temperature..After the engine block cyclinders are heated up the smoking thing won't happen...I complained to 2 dealers for 10 months..They both thought i was crazy because they never noticed any smoke....SO i took a video of the smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipe...and then one dealer contacted a rep from ford finally....They gave me a hand held computer with a record button that was plugged into the computer port of my truck...They instructed me to push the red button while the smoking episode is happening..and i did 4 times...It took reading of all the computer sensors....I returned back to the dealer and they read the computer and they found that the EGR valve was stuck in the open position at idle....Thay said theres your smoking problem....WOW i was so happy finally my problem would be fixed....Well i waited 6 weeks for a newly designed EGR valve that ford finally recieved..They installed it, the truck ran so smooth and powerful, no smoke..I was so happy.....................................Until a week ago..about 600 miles later AGAIN... Loss of low end power..smoking again

Loss of power and smoking, it sounds like the EGR is carboned up and stuck again. That is what I'm afraid of happening all over again. They replace the parts and it works, for now, 'till it carbons up again. There is something going on that they can't figure out yet. I now have the new turbo and the redesigned EGR valve but I not holding my breath that this is the solution. The surging that I'm now experiencing is the flash program. Between all the threads concerning a smoking 6.0, there seems to be a relation, especially around the EGR valve. The 6.0 is a great engine and there are handling a few improperly and giving it a bad rap. Mine ran perfect for 30K, I wish I never let them touch it. Well good luck and I hope your next fix is permanent.
Just went for a little ride..Truck has no low end power..Turbo gauge is moving though, still same rattling noise over 3000 rpm's coming from the turbo....The truck used to pin my head back....when flooring it....no where close to that now..I'm dropping it off to my dealer in the morning..I told them they can have it as long as they like...Just find the problem and fix it..Its been 5 times for the same problem within the year at 2 dealerships.........Waiting for the 07's..Not too happy with this 05
UPDATE!!!...Picking up my truck today..The dealer said nothings wrong with it...I asked them about the turbo rattling noise and they said its normal...So what do i do now................??????...
Call 1-800-392-3673 and demand satisfaction. They will have to address it and they, in a funny way, are there to serve you. The squeaky wheel does get the grease and it wouldn't hurt to try. Just be persistent, squeak, squeak, squeak!
Just out of curosity what brand or oil and diesel are both of you running. The EGR does not carbon up on its own. Granting that it took almost the same time would indicate a trend, for both of you. Are either of you running any type of fuel additive, if your not you should be. Please help us help you. The more specific info you give us, the more we can try to track down for you. Sure would hate to involve a lawyer for a problem that may be as simple as the brand of oil/fuel you are using. Understandably it is a new truck, and they should fix it for you, but with some dealerships, that is not the case. One bit of caution for any reading this thread. I don't care where you buy the truck, that is irrelevant, but before you bring your truck into the dealer, ask to see the certifications the technician holds before turing your truck over to them. I did not do this and had a legit warranty claim denied. Not only was he not a certified 6.0l or 7.3l tech, he was not even an ASE certified Diesel tech. (Thank goodness for another dealer chewing out the Field Rep for denying the claim and getting it handled quickly, the rep even made the service manager not to retort to customer satisfaction techniques {ordering parts form someones elses vin, not warranty locked} he wanted to handle the matter the correct way, wished the dork would have done this to begin with, not taking a diagnosis from an uncertified tech and passing judgement.) I highly encourage all of you to talk to the tech directly. If the service writer, or service manager frowns upon this, run, run, run. Employers tend to showcase their star employees. Its the bad ones they hide.
I have been running rotella t synthetic 5w x 40 w...for the last 5000 miles....and i am using an additive (power service) even though the dealer said i don't need to use anything....The weird thing is..each time i brought my truck in for the smoking problem they find nothing...The last time they hooked up a monitoring computer which i had to press a button when the smoking started..this monitoring instrument measured readings off all the sensors...This is how they found the EGR stuck at idle...That was replaced about a month ago..yesterday they said the EGR is working find and is not stuck.....There is a road with a up hill incline about 1/4 mile long (not too steep)..Every time i drive up that hill ..by the time i get to the top and stop at the crest the struck starts to smoke excessively..I guess i will have to video tape it..Its something to do with the angle of the truck before the smoking starts.....also i use sunoco, gulf, diesel from stations that move alot of gallons.
as for disconnecting the EGR..I followed the instructions in the tech folder to the "T"...I could not stop the check engine light from coming on....another point that confuses me..5 of my friends have this same truck..All of them installed air intakes...(afe, K+N, Air raid ) they have no problems...I tried 2 name brands and both of them threw a code..( mass air..Too much mass Air) with the check engine light.....What gives with this truck
