Has anyone ever tried the headers and Y pipe upgrade without swapping out the stock muffler? Some on this site do not like the Banks cat back sound, I'm not too crazy about it either after hearing it, so how would the cat forward stuff work without changing the stock cat back exhaust?
The stock muffler is super restrictive. So the headers and Y pipe would be a waste. This is what I did. I put the Powerpack on my 03' V10. A week later I baught a Flowmaster 70 series and slapped it on. It sounds 1000% better. You just need to buy a 3.5" to 3" reducer due to the banks tailpipe is 3.5" and the Flowmaster is 3".
You could just do the the headers a y pipe. You will have to get some pipe and make some pieces because the Banks stuff is all bigger that stock. Also, all the banks stuff will come with O2 sensor locations. One more thing, Does the headers alone come with a starter heat shield or sway bar link heat shields? The started shield is a must.
Dan, You can install just the Banks. The muffler is after the cat so you won't need to do anything to the system to get the Banks to fit. All you really need is just a muffler swap. Getting one that sounds good is the trick. I had a Borla system and it sounded good to me(quiet) So maybe a Banks header kit and a Borla cat back?
No it does not. The powerpack kit uses the existing pipe between the cat and muffler. Those are the ony two remaining stock items, the cat and pipeafter the cat.
