I have a 97 250 with straight pipe from the firewall back. should i go ahead and replace the downpipe from the turbo with a round 4" aftermarket? if so how hard is it to do and who would be my best bet to order it from? will i be able to tell a diff in power or lower EGT's?
Unless you want to put a body lift on the truck or do some fairly major firewall modifications, you're gonna have a real hard time getting a 4" dp in there. I'd go with the 3-3.5" from one of our sponsors. Probably cost about $130, or you can get an entire system if your not already 4" out the back. May want to consider replacing the cab bushings at the same time (the oem ones are probably sagging real bad and it makes it real easy to remove the stock dp with the cab raised up). The hardest part of replacing the dp is getting the old one out. New dp will lower your EGT's a bunch a give you a little extra power. Hope it helps.
You'll be way better off if you get a comoplete systems form someone like us. We have the MBRP system in aluminized and 409 stainless that are designed to fit the 1994-97 1st generation trucks. They have a 3.0 down pipe and a 4.0 system size, fit easily and have real packed mufflers and welded hangers etc. Call us if you have any questions etc, we'll be glad to help you.
