Well, I got one Saturday.. I was on an open stretch of road going down hill(not a car in site) and I wasn't paying attention to my speed. Cop nailed me for 83 in a 55, got me fair and square. There were two cops in the car. The last two tickets I got which were years ago I just mailed in and paid, but I'm wondering what my options are. I've heard there are those classes you can take that might knock a few points off. I don't just want to mail the thing in, as I am concerned about my insurance rates. I don't care about the fine.. it's the points and the insurance I'm concerned about.
Yah, I dont know what the PM said, but your options as far as the ticket are to fight it or just pay it.
Here in Fresno County, you can pay an extra $35 for the option of going to a driving class and not having the point go on your record, thus preventing the insurance rates from going up. It can only be done once in 3 yrs here.
If you wind up going to the court house to pay it, they will explain all this schtuff to you. Went there just last week with the wife to figure this stuff out.
Yeah, I saw on the NJ DMV website that going to the class will take off 2 points (it's a four point ticket). I'd much rather do that than pay for the rates with a four point ticket. That's a big ouch. I don't think there's much I can do to fight it.. unless of course I show up and the cop isn't there.. a co-worker of mine lucked out on that once. They just throw it out. I also read somewhere that if there were two cops there, BOTH need to show up. There were two cops in the car.. I'd think it would be harder to get both to show up? Who knows.. still looking into this. All I know is that the main thing I want to avoid is the points. I don't care about the fine, I'll pay that. I'll do whatever it takes to reduce the points from it, so we'll see. I'm gonna call the courthouse tommorrow and see what the deal is.
IL has a system that is so outdated it ain't funny.
You can easily be on court supervision in several counties at once, literally and not a joke.
Sinceit is not reported to the Secretary of State if you go on Court Supervision there is no way of tracking it throughout the state.
There is a reason I know this, I was on Court Supervision in two counties at the same time, several years back but it is a joke what they do.
Have you ever been to the court supervision class thing, it is so retarded. last time I went to it the instructor said "back again?" It was only the 4th time I had taken the class.
When I called the Missouri DMV they told me I'd have to get an attorney if I wanted to try to go to traffic school to get points reduced. I decided it wasn't worth it and just paid.
Since I've been ticketed a few times in the same area simply for keeping up with the average speed I now drive the exact speed limit and impede traffic so as to be "safe."
Subpeona all relevant information. The last time the radar gun was calibrated, etc., everything you can think of. If you don't get the information you want, it has to be thrown out. Also hope he doesn't show up - if he doesn't, it's thrown out. Do a search, both on FTE and on google. There's a ton of good information out there.
If you're more worried about points than money it might be worth finding a good lawyer, they can usually keep quite a bit off your record if you're willing to pay.
Like andym said, ask to see the calibration records for the radar unit and the certification course the officer has that gave you the ticket. In Ohio I believe the radar and the officer has to be recertified every year. If was the state police they probably have it if it is a local pd I bet they don't.
Here in NY, you NEVER just mail it in. Show up for court, and 99% of the time the DA will reduce it to "failure to obey a traffic safety device" as the officer that issued the ticket rarely (if ever) shows up. This is especially true if you haven't had a ticket in the past 3 years.
