99 Dodge Dakota

Not for me, My father bought this truck yesterday. 318, sport package, 4x4, loaded w/every option. 82,000mi. Was this truck worth 11,000, and what kind of reliability can he expect. I know the 318 is supposed to be a good engine, but the truck seems underpowerd. Also it's an extended cab. Tried to talk him into a ranger....

FWIW:

There were problems with ball joints on the 4x4 Durangos and Dakotas. Dodge did some sort of recall regarding the '00-'03 models, but I've heard that the problem has also been reported on some late 90s vehicles, as well.

Also, some of the Dodge engines had oil sludge issues, including those used in the Durango. I'm not sure if the 318 is one of those engines:

I got to drive my uncles 2000 Dodge Dakota around for about 6 months while he was out to sea a few years ago. It was a really nice ride, I really enjoyed it.

It is defenitly not a Ford but I would honestly take it over a Ranger.

Isn't $11,000 little too much for 6 years old and 82,000 miles Dakota? Brand new Ranger cost only few thousands more.

Rust free 4x4 ex-cab sport package. It is imaculate inside and out. No fluid leaks anywhere. And ball joints/suspension has 0 play. Red, I don't know where your from, but here in the northeast 4x4 's keep their value.

I had a Dakota, a 2002, and LOVED it. I needed more room and got a good deal on an Expy, which is why I am here.

I used the following forums as a great source of information on the Dakota's:

www.dakota-durango.com

A few simple suggestions for that motor that will give you some better power and mileage. 180* Tstat, Synthetic Oil and a Cold Air Intake (I recommend 360 Air Intakez).

Price seems high to me, I sold my 2002 QC 4x4 with 45K miles for $14 (4.7 v8)
