My 1986 Ranger with a 2.3L FI engine has no power. When cruising at 55mph and climbing a slight hill it decelerates to 45mph, with the gas pedal to the floor. I have changed the EGR, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, cat. converter, air filter, and checked air box. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.

I have not checked fuel pressure, but I will. As far as codes, is there a way to check them myself, or do I need to have special equipment. But I have standard size tires.
I don't know much about the early rangers, but you may want to pull the vacumn line on the fuel regulator. If it smells of gas it is bad and needs replacing. that seems to be a common trouble in these trucks. good luck.
Dave
The fuel pressure regulator is a good place to check as Dave suggested. I had a problem like yours a few years ago and my regulator was bad. It's the silver thing on the fuel rail with a little hose going into it. Could also be the fuel filter, or some weird electrical problem, like I'm having now...
