Well I looked on partsamerica.com and the flywheel from the maverick didn't have a weight on it, but the one on my truck has a weight.
Yes, the 302 cid engine off your truck did have a weight on the flywheel, looks good.

Not sure what small bell housing your truck has on it now.
Starters either came with a 2 bolt hole or a 3 bolt hole on the starter and should match up to the hole on the bell housing. Check and measure the new starter for the nose housing that extends 2''. Pre measure the horizontal distance from the front of the bell housing to the inner teeth on flywheel as a precheck.
Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated all of your help. You helped me fix a 2 year old problem that has bugged me the whole time. I bought the Maverick starter and actually I had my doubts at first because it looked just like the one that was on there to me, but apparently it wasn't, because it worked like a charm Thank you. Robert
PS: to all the ones that told me you can't change a starter without removing headers.
Well actually no I didn't see much diff at all in the two, but it did work thats what counts. Now I just gotta find out whats making my tranny linkage pull down in 2nd everytime you get on it a little. Loose motor mount?
I thought that too and replaced it also, but what gets me is I have driven trucks with the whole motor mount broke half into and they didn't have the problem. Another words it couldn't be anything to do with the tranny itself could it?
The transmission will automatically downshift into second when the truck is going slowwer than 45 mph, this is called the passing gear. Is this what your truck is doing?
You might want to check your front cab mounts. I have seen a lot of PU's that have rusted out around them and the cab floats up and down. It made them come out of gear.
Yeah thats what I asked the man at the tranny place and he looked at me like I was stupid. Yes the whole shifter is physically pulling down and you have to pull it back up to go on into third.
