blown power valve

always heard older holleys will get their power valve blown out with a backfire through the carb, does this usually happen with stock ford carbs too?and if so is their a mod to fix this like the newer holleys got the check valve or whatever in em to keep backfire pressure out of the valve.

I haven't heard of this with Stock Ford carbs. They usually just dry rot.

Had that happen to a Holley 4180 in a ford bronco. I Installed a "Power Valve Saver" and replacement power valve from summitracing.com. Never happened again. The mod is easy and worth doing but you have to remove the carb to drill it from the bottom.

I've heard it's possible at least on the stock 2 barrels, but I've never had it happen personally. I've had some terrible, terribe intake backfires on a 400 and it never blew a single power valve.
