Erratic electrical problem

I was at work and went out to my truck to start it and it was completly dead nothing, I look under the hood and find the black batt. terminal corroded. I loosen it and throw some coke on it to try to eat up some corrosion and i get power back. But it wasnt enough to turn over my bIIs engine. I start pulling back the black plastic and find the wire to be extremely briddle and corroded. So i decide to replace it. When i went to replace it one piece ran down and connected on the frame with another black wire. BUt when i replaced it it was one solid terminal from the batterty to the engine block with a little connector coming off the top so i just put the lower line on the connector. Now its really jumpy like theres a lose wire, my alt gauge jumps along with everything else, tach, temp, and pressure guage, My ac blower lags behind... i charged my batt and put it back in so now it starts but it cuts in and out... could it be bad battery??? Ive checked connections they all seem to be good. any ideas?

you have a bad ground at some point. you need a ground to engine (for it to run) and a ground to frame/body for you gauges and eletronics to function correctly.

Simplest solution is to go to your local auto parts store and buy a braided grounding strap. Bolt one end onto your engine where the negative battery cable goes and the other to your frame where you took off the old battery cable.
