Best Concealed Carry Firearm and WHY

I'd go for the Glock 36. It's a light and very small .45 Auto cartridge. I beleive it has a magazine for 6 rounds, but you can buy a magazine extender to add an extra round and a better grip (the stock model is too small to fit a normal-sized hand around comrotably, and the magazine extender adds a resting place for your pinky).
The only bad part is, since it's so light, it kicks like a

.44 Magnum for the cool factor. Dirty Harry made me fall inlove with that gun.
a nice nickel plated 9mm to scare the brothers away would work too.
ME conceled would be a 50 cal mounted in my tool box on the truck, but it's not practicle.
So either a short barrel 44 mag or a 9mm
your right i forgot all about the glock. awsome gun.. mabey a beretta too.

There are a lot of variables in an answer to this question. The best CCW weapon is the one that YOU are comfortable carrying and can handle and shoot well. What might be best for me, may be totally unsuitable for you. The main thing is, whatever you carry become comfortable and proficient with it. Shoot it enough that the operation of the firearm becomes second nature to you. No matter what you carry, if in an emergency you have to stop and think about removing the safety or any other aspect of operation, it might be too late.

Kimber Pro-Carry (.45 GAP) or Springfield XD40 (.40 CAL). Shoot one and you won't be disappointed. Any gun will kill ya, but knwoing yours will work and is more accurate than the next guys is mighty comforting.
The Kimber is 1911 style and the XD is Glock / Sig style. Both have 3" barrels. Very nice, very accurate, very smooth.

This is simple. .357 Magnum revolver (Taurus is my favorite for the money), loaded with 158 grain hollow point ammo. Simplicity, strength, no hang ups or accidents, balance, and a very powerful round which is capable of good penetration without causing too much recoil to the user.
Of course with training anyone can become an expert of sorts with their favorite gun, and auto's certainly have advantages, but for the average joe who is interested only so far as self preservation - this would be my first recommendation.

Accurate, simple. Field strips and cleans easy, common round
Many parts and rounds out there, fits the hand, modifications as far as you have folding cash to go.
Various profile from thin to fat. barrel length negotiable.
DEFINITE KNOCK DOWN.
Moderate carry-through.
A well-balanced one will take out a dime at fifty feet.
COPS should ALL carry them these days, in view of the original design concerns and the issues we see today.
I DON'T LIKE THE MAUSER M2 (built under license for SIG, I believe) - too short a grip, internal hammer, felt like a plastic piece of junk. The safety is flimsy and bound to be trouble, I SOLD MINE.
You wanted thoughts - there you go.

You are going to have to find the one pistol that fits your hand the best. While I like and sometimes carry a Browning BDA 380, it is small in the hand but the 13 rounds is a plus. Recoil is light compared to the larger calibers which may be a factor for you. My favorite CC for my very large hand is the AMT 30 Automag. It is a 30 carbine in a semi-auto pistol. Large grips, stainless steel, cheap ammo, good sights, and very accurate. I have several dozen other types like a Beretta 92 in 40 SW that is a great shooting gun but doesn't feel at home under the arm. If you want impressive where you might not have to pull the trigger on someone, try a Thompson Contender in a Super 14 in a 44Mag. That's a hand full when it comes out and generally gets everybodys attention. They also have shorter barrels and different calibers but they are a single shot. Another favorite would be any of my Colt Pythons. The 357 Mag is easy on the hand, recoil is not bad, ammo is cheap, and has great sights. Problem I have is if I actually pulled the trigger on someone, I would have to give up the gun to the cops. That's why I don't generally carry a Python or any other Colt. Pick one, just make sure it looks like a gun and not a Glock. They aren't very impressive by looks and if you have to pull down on someone, they most likely are going to be lite up on drugs. You don't want them to think you pulled a toy. Or, if you don't like any of those, do like my little brother, buy one of each and sort them out later. He has several hundred. The only man I have ever known that will buy a gun because somebody give him some ammo and he doesn't have a gun for it.
Later.

May I suggest Springfield armory?
They build a very tight and nice 1911A1 with three dot sights and beveled mag reciever that doesn't wobble. They have quite a reputation for that.
Way under CLOT prices....
(And yes, I know how "COLT" is spelled)
The only reason you might want one of those (colt) is if you plan to bury it in mud, and still hit something within five feet of you!
TEST: With the slide closed, shake it from side to side.
If it rattles, it's a COLT
