"I Heard Someone Say"...

(sound familiar?)

A friend of mine told me the other day that folks he knew in Virginia said that for every day in july and august there was heavy fog in the mornings it meant that on the same day come NOVEMBER there would be SNOW.

-And they been having a lot of early morning fog apparently.

Has anyone else heard this saying?

I've always stuck with "Dry summer, wet winter; wet summer, dry winter". It seems to work out pretty well.

Well, yeah Jared. But then there was TEXAS the one year, and California went five or more in a row...

(Lake Hodges looked like it was being sucked dry with a giant straw)

Still, In south Cal there is a basic process at work.

It rains, plants grow.
They dry - they catch on fire.
They burn - it takes water to put them out.
You can't use salt water, it ruins the ecological balance.
ERGO - the lakes empty...
GOTO LINE ZERO ONE ZERO

I'd have scattered ROCK SALT years ago!!!

Yes I know, I'm chaotic and politically suicidal. It isn't news to me...

Odd you should have said that - Poppa Don (who strikingly resembles Papa Smurff!) is about in his eighties...
Kindest old friend I know - he gave me the lift to the station and back, and a tour of things in Memphis I didn't know about.

I heard someone say WD-40 will eat the O-rings out of the chain on your bike.
I laughed. If the factory recomends using diesel to clean the thing I am sure WD will be just fine for lube.

Greywolfus sorry to divert this thread away from wheather talk but I had to add my "I heard" LOL

Bringing it back too wheather Canada geese are allready semi migrating up hear in north idaho, odd for an activity that normally happens in october- november .

I've always kinda thought if it was a bad summer for hay it was going to be a long cold hard winter.

If it was a good year for a hay crop it was going to be a mild winter. Or at least it seems if it's a bad winter then you had a bad hay crop the summer before, of you have alot in reserve it almost seems like it never gets used up before the next summer.

All we got is fog-fog-fog.

And when that clears, more fog.

Been raining here, on and off, for days. It never rains in August, only ducked 1 tornado this spring, and hit 100 in May. Guess this winter is gonna be a strange one!

Dunno about the O-rings, but WD-40 is not a lubricant. Its a solvent.

Now THAT is something that grabs my attention. Wildlife generally have a dang good reason for changing migratory or other activeties, and you're telling me they are on the move about two months early?

Makes me wonder if I should stock up on kerosene. Course if I had a wood stove like I planned, I'd be set.

Canada Geese have changed their migration habits.

I am living in the prime Flight line of this critter & with 5 wildlife sanctuaries within 6 miles of home.

Some Geese that normally fly south for the winter are now stopping closer to cities North of the 49th.

Calgary is becoming a winter haven for them as there more to eat in the no snow covered fields & the fact that humans in the cities are feeding them more than ever.

Another reason is because of the weather (climate change) and the fact that Farmer's in the states are firing cannons to scare them off their property.

It is common on everyday of the year to see small flocks of geese go over the house on the way to the closest wildlife sanctuary a few blocks away or heading away from it.

Hey Dennis gould you tell some of those ducks and geese to get off the sofa and fly south this comming winter. As the past few(as in decade) hunting seasons down here in Texas have been horable. A good hunt used to mean you got your limit, now it means you saw A bird(Not shot, but saw).

Sorry to digress from the thread, but just wanted to pass the message to the migatory game birds that they need to fly south.

We have huge flooks of geese around Memphis. They never go south. They are becoming a problem so we have a long season & big bag limits.
