Hi Guys, I'm a newby so please bare with me. I have a F250, CC, PSD, SWB, FX4 and had the transmission out at 7K miles. It seems to work well moving forward but ocassionally when I put it in reverse it wants to chatter. Is it me or is there something wrong with the darn thing. I have just over 13K miles on it now and I am very concerned. The dealer that repaired the recall said it looked good inside, "no metal shavings" and all went well on the repair. Has anyone else had similar problems?
Funny, I have 13,000 miles on mine and have been having trouble with shifting from 2nd to 3rd. When it shifts the engine seems to rev a bit and surges into 3rd it feels like it wants to skip 2nd? It was at the dealer all last week. Here is what was done and it is still doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Calling the dealership back this morning. This is what they entered on "MY Ford.com"

we just got our truck back from the stealership, they just "fixed" the reverse shudder. took them a full two weeks, they replaced a reverse piston actuator or something, but i can find the warranty sheet and look at what they did if ya want.
Does it 'chatter' more than once? What year is it? Does it have the plow prep package?
Our '04 550 was in a total of four times for bad\hard shifting into reverse. When the snap ring let loose and cracked the case, the rebuilt finally solved the problem as far as I know. They replaced solenoids a couple times, reflashed, etc even replaced the planetary pins that were walking out. The only fix was the 'new and improved' snap ring which is or is similar to the original.
Supposedly the bad snap ring was to solve harsh shifting problems until they started cracking the cases on a regular basis.
strokin, the BS part of it was that this truck has a 9/03 build date--out of the date ranges of 'bad' Torqshift Customer Satisfaction BS--and when we brought it in for the cracked case, they told us we were not coming to a complete stop between shifts and that is why the snap ring let loose and cracked the case. Never mind the dozens they had already fixed with this problem and the others waiting, including our '05 550.
I was a little upset by that comment. Especially after the tech tells me there is an electronic delay that will not allow the tranny to shift when motion is sensed. Neither he nor the adviser saw that one coming.
yes the build date on this truck is 10/13/03, what it says on the invoice. but since then its had two more engines in it, not sure of the current engine's build date.
plus they couldnt blame it on not coming to a complete stop, my dad actually showed the service guy- come to a complete stop, put in park and then shift into reverse, let the tranny clunk (still clunks) into reverse, then mildly accelerate like backing out of a parking spot. alot worse (almost unbearable) backing a 4000# trailer up a slight uphill driveway.

Sorry guys, my truck is an 2004 model. I'll have to see if I can find the build date. I've already had the tranny taken apart once, I hope I don't have to do that again. Just don't like riding in a Focus while my truck is being butchered. I did notice this past Saturday when I put it in reverse, I hadn't come to a complete stop yet. When I'm backing my Travel Trailer (about 9K lbs.) it hasn't chattered. I wonder if there really is a delay? This I will check out tomorrow!
