I just bought a 88 F250 with a 351W and a 5 spd last week and so far the best milage i got on it was 11mpg on the highway i just put a 3" flowmaster side pipe and a summit air filter (like a k&n) but i havent drove it enough to see if the mileg improved. I was just wondering what others were gettin with there 351w and if this is normal for it or what els i could do to improve it. I was also thinking about checkin the timing. thanks
That's about average, I'd say. You didn't say if it was 4x4 or not, or an extended cab/long bed, etc. and those things all have an impact.
Pull the codes and see if anything needs attention. You may need an O2 sensor or something else that controls fuel mixture. It also is a good idea to do a tuneup occasionally.

With mine it all depends really. If its wintertime and I've got the front end locked in, I get 8 if im lucky. Right now I'm averaging 13-15. All depends on how I'm running it, where I'm running it, and all that stuff. I have dual exhaust back to cherry bombs which gave me a mile/gallon increase. Just be easy on the ol pedal and keep a steady speed on the highway. Change the plugs and wires and cap and rotor and see what happens.
