1995 F-250

I have a 95 F-250 4.9 4sp w OD.

my problem is with the tranny in gear, any gear. and the clutch pedal down to the floor the truck will still move. It doesn't feel like the clutch is fully disengaging.

Stuff that has been replacedpressureplate/throughout bearing clutch disk. still had a problem. had the slave cylinder replaced. worked fine for a couple weeks. took it back. they forgot to replace the pilot bearing. had that fixed, and it still doesn't work right. I think I can hear the through out bearing making some noise. would that cause it to do what its doing or what. Anyone have any ideas whats going on with it.

Thanks for the help

first, if your mechanic forgot the pilot bearing you used the wrong shop.

second, if they cannot diagnose and fix what is wrong, i would be mad as hell.

do you have a warranty? what is the name of the shop? is it a transmission chain?

the master cylinder could be bad.

I know beans about tranny's but I had a problem with my pedals. The mount is aluminimum and the plastic bushings had worn out so the pedal shaft was wearing through the mount. Got so bad that if I mashed the clutch to the floor it still put up a fight. Changed the mounting bracket and all was good. It was a bear though. When I got the old bracket out I saw that it was worn almost all the way through on the clutch side. So question? Do your clutch and brake pedals rock when you press on them at the same time? If so you might have the same problem as me.

Its not actually mine, itis a friend of mine. it wasn't a tranny shop, just a general auto/rv shop called Haylett's Auto and RV. A place I would never take anything to. I think he had a 3 month/3,000 mile warranty, that is already passed so he is on his own. When he was driving it on a bad pilot bearing. would that have messed anything up?

Rotor...what do you mean by rocking

I would check the plastic bushing where the pedal assembly goes into the clutch master cylinder. I've had a few of those die in my day and it does make a difference.

If replacing the slave cylinder worked for a couple weeks, I'd bet there's still some air in the hydraulic system. Try rebleeding the clutch slave cylinder.

Last thought is that it could be firewall flex. The clutch master cylinder mounts to the engine side of the firewall. If the sheet metal firewall is getting worn out, it can flex as you push the clutch in causing similar symptoms to what you've described.

Will I be able to actually see the firewall flex if that's what's wrong. Would that plastic bushing be white. if so its worn out it looks like a U instead of on O. That little piece wouldn't cause all the problems would it?

Yes, that little piece can cause all these problems. Its a critical junction in the clutch mechanism. Take a bushing outta your suspension and it'll cause major issues...

anyway, back to topic. I would check the local ford dealership to see if they have these bushings. My local parts stores (Pep Boys, Autozone) didn't have it unless you bought the whole clutch master cylinder. If you can't find it, maybe a you can find one in a junkyard. I believe all the trucks with hydraulic clutches had the same bushing. I used one from an 86 in my 92 for a few weeks.

Another thing, since the bushing is shot, check the pedal shaft as well. I've had to replace the pedal before cuz of this problem. I let the bushing go for too long and it started wearing out the groove in the shaft. Just something else to check while you have it all apart.

Well I pulled the tranny out. With only about 4,000 miles on it, ithe clutch disk was wore down to the rivits. the throw out bearing had a lot of slop in it. I don't think it was ever replaced. wish I would have taken a picture of it. He dropped a new clutch kit off, the flywheel should be here in a day or 2. does the bearing come out of the slave cylinder, cause the kit came with a new one. or is the bearing part of the slave.
