4.0 engine swap from explorer ?

I can't find it now but a few days ago I found a thread on swapping in a 4.0 I thought. I've got a few questions:

1) What year explorer 4.0 engine do you need?
2) Do the wires going into the firewall have to changed or will the 4.0 harness plug right in?
3) Will the ECM plug in the factory clip and location?
4) Will the 4.0 cooling fan work in the BII radiator shroud?
5) If needed will the 4.0 radiator swap in or will there fabricating involved?
6) Does the intake use the BII air box or will all of the 4.0 intake components be needed?
7) Will a custom exaust be needed or will the Y pipe bolt right up to the 4.0?
8) Will the motor mounts need to be changed? Do you use the BII mounts, the 4.0 mounts or does it mater?
9) Will the motor bolt up to the BII 5-speed bell housing?
10) What flywheel do you use?
11) What's needed to hook up the fuel lines?

Thanks a lot, I did some searches but didn't have much luck. Depending on how easy it is I might install a 4.0 I have a line on.

I put a new 92 Explorer radiator (2 row) in my 86 Bronco 2 and everything fit just fine. No modifications needed!

When swapping in the Explorer radiator, you will have to use the lower hose from an Explorer with AT to clear the steering box. Irregardless of whether your Bronco II is manual or automatic. Been there-done that.

OSin86, the reason the lower radiator hose off of an explorer is used is because the lower fitting of the new radiator is longer than that of the one off of the Bronco. I still used (new) the lower radiator hose off of the Bronco and mine doesn`t touch any part of the frame or steering but you can still try the latter if you wish because I`ve been there and done that also.

Listen Up,The 4.0 bolts right in.Any year of 4.0 will work. Not certain about the SOHC4 though. The tranny from the Donor explorer is preferrable if its a manual,Because I think It's heavydutier. The Bronco trannies are notoriously wussie. The motor mounts from either the Explorer or the Bronco work. Not certain Which ones but one set does.

As for the wires,You need to gut Every engine wire out of each truck.Because each one uses a different Ignition System. You need the Brain and the whole underhood Harness from the Exploder to run the 4 liter. It is easy to retrofit.

The fuel system out of your Bronco will work IF it is a Fuelie to begin with.
I would say use the 4.0 Y pipe.If it does not bolt right up,a shop shoud be able to match them up for nothing.Again ,Depending on your year of Bronco,You may have an H pipe,ie the two sides are seperate untill the flange where the rest of the system attaches. My reccomend is to use the 4.o y pipe and fab up a performance exhaust.to match.Thought about headers.?

I think a semi custom air intake will need to be made.Using some 'sploder some Bronco and some custom parts. I have a cone filter hooked up to the Throttle body via 2.9 intake tube. Also a good time to devise a cold air/snorkel system if you go off road lots.
Hope I have proved useful.
