i went with the btm because it is a very cost effective way to upgrade you exhaust to lower egts... it sounds i little better than stock also... it will do fine till i'm ready for a 4" turbo back system... also... i can't see that a dealership would void your warranty just because you got rid of that stock piece of junk muffler that comes with your truck... if they did i would complain all the way up the ladder to ford corporate..
Johnny8's writeup is, as usual, perfect. Gauges Gauges Gauges. This is the gospel spoken here for all you cats that wanna start adding chip/programmers. Intake and exhaust are also big parts of the puzzle. But gauges are your safety net protecting your new $45K investment from yourself. I very nearly blew my rig apart with the 100hp Predator tune the first time I jumped on it. EGT's hit 1400 degrees before I hit 60mph, and without a pyro gauge, I'd have run it right up to 100mph (if it would have made it that far). Now I know how hot the exhaust is, and how to keep it in safe operating range. Thanks to all of the great info here, keep up the good vibe everyone!
Johnny8, you nailed it. Boost ( air ) is only half of the equation, without the other half, fuel, you will only see minimal gains. Yes putting a boost tube or disconnecting the wastegate on an otherwise stock truck will yeild some seat of the pants improvement, but on a dyno it will show minor gains. Now about the BTM, yes for a minor increase it will help lower egts. Would you see lower temps with a full 4" exhaust and a 3.5" dp, yes. If you plan on running an Evo or Predator in the tow setting only, a BTM should be fine.
i have the btm and the predator... i run the tow setting when pulling the 5ver, and the 60hp setting for dailly driving... no probs with egts... it will get to 1200 on the 60hp if i get on it and do zero to 85... but i don't do that... the boys in blue don't like it... so psdpower is spot on with his statements about this... one warning... if you do set up you mule like mine.. beware the 85hp tune, egts go up REALLY FAST when you tromp on it... the 100hp tune is even worse on the egts... if you plan on running your truck with these tunes... plan on at least a 4" turbo back exhaust system...
