Hey guys I am new to this site and hope to make a lot of new friends and share some info.
I have this problem with my 88 Bronco ll sometimes when I am going down the road usually above 45 miles per hour she will start billowing black smoke and loses power then after an embarrasing smoke show it will regain power and be fine. Some people have suggested PCV valve but I am sceptical is it a piece of scrap or what? Thanks for any input!
Check for a leaking fuel pressure regulator by running it for a few minutes, shut it down and pull the vacuum line off the FPR and check for gas, gas = bad.
Next pull the codes, see the link " pulling EEC-IV codes" in the tech info thread at the top of this forum.
Well I just went ahead and replaced the FPR, because it looked rusty and like it may have been in there for awhile. But it didnt solve the problem. It seems like the timing is off or something I just dont even know. My truck has a check engine light but it hasnt come on. I pulled the spark plugs out and aside from being a little black they dont look like they are fouling or anything.
It only happens when I am trying to accelerate. And it is usually only when I try to accelerate up to like 55 or 70 that it does it. When I floor it it works for a minute but then starts to smoke again.
PLEASE help me I have not been having good luck with this thing, do you think I should pull the codes even though its not throwing a check engine light, and where did you say that list of code evaluations was.
I am sorry if I am being a burdon but I really need something to get me back and forth to work and school and this is the vehicle I decided to spend my vehicle savings on, its driveable but very embarrassing and I am sure to get pulled over with it.
When you go to WOT the ECU ignores some of the sensers so that even makes me think it's a senser more, try pulling the codes. The link is in the tech info thread thats stuck at the top of this forum.
Mine's been doing this for awhile too. We discovered tonight, that two of the spark plug wires have bare spots and are rubbing on the block. I'm getting a new set of wires tomorrow and will post my results here.
